Overview
Sharing stories across generations honors the legacy and importance of voting. Invite an elder with voting history to share their experiences, wisdom, and stories to inspire your approach to casting your most thoughtful vote.
Up for the challenge?
Sample Questions to Ask:
- How was voting viewed or discussed in your family or community?
- When did you first vote in an election, and what do you remember most about the experience?
- What challenges, if any, have you faced regarding casting your vote?
- How have your voting experiences shaped your outlook on democracy?
- Based on your life experiences, what do you value most about our election process, and what should we consider for the future?
Tips…
- Exercise patience; elders’ experiences are often grounded in stories, so be prepared to listen.
- If you would like to record your conversations, please be sure to ask if recording and sharing (especially on social media) is ok.
